In 1957, the question of the right of ladies to vote had been defeated, but only by the narrowest of margins, a tied vote of 20 – 20. The topic was likely discussed over the intervening years, but only came again to formal recognition at the annual meeting of January 25, 1970, and a decision made to put the subject onto the agenda for the following years’ annual meeting.  Subsequently the motion allowing women on Church Council was adopted, although the motion stipulated that only one woman could be elected in any given year. By 1979, the wording of the Constitution was changed to allow both the calling of female Pastors and the inclusion of women on the Nominating Committee. The congregational photo-directory, published in 1987, clearly shows that the “one woman on council” rule was quickly dispensed with. Mrs. Carolyn Jones and Mrs. Barbara Kramer are shown as full members of the 1986 council. 1992 shows five women on Council. The ladies had won their place!
